Chicken Legs In The Air Fryer

  • Everyone loves recipes keto, low carb, or paleo, and this one fits the bill for all three!
  • Chicken legs are tasty and more economical than boneless, skinless breasts.

  • Recipes healthy or otherwise can be cooked in the air fryer—but this is one you can feel good about serving.
  • Simple ingredients equal no fussing or extra trips to the store.
  • For an easy dinner try serving chicken legs and potatoes. Both can be cooked in the air fryer, and potatoes are so easy to keep warm in the oven.

Chicken Dry Rub Recipe

CHICKEN Use drumsticks or bone-in quarters. Quarters that have back attached and thigh may take longer to cook, but they taste great fried.

SALT & PEPPER It’s always the most important part of the seasoning. Salt and pepper just make everything taste better, and chicken legs are no exception.

ONION & GARLIC POWDER: It lends a sweet and savory flavor, plus unlike breaded chicken, it’s low carb and keto.

PAPRIKA Paprika works in many recipes bbq or otherwise, whether sweet or smoked, spicy or milder. Choose your favorite type and use more or less than the recipe calls for if desired!

Best Air Fryer Chicken Legs

  • Be sure to preheat the air fryer. The chicken will cook more evenly if the temperature stays constant. Be sure to defrost frozen chicken legs.
  • Never crowd items in the air fryer basket. Food cooks up crispy if the air is allowed to circulate.
  • Allow chicken to rest on the counter for 20 minutes before air frying. Meat tends to cook up juicier when cooked from room temperature.
  • Don’t be shy with seasoning. And feel free to experiment with different flavors. Try taco seasoning, Italian seasoning, or buffalo seasoning.

  1. This is very frustrating. No recipe booklet & very few recipes on line. Everytime I put a food item in the recipe bar, it comes back & saids Sorry no content matched your search! Running out of Patience here.

    1. Hi Debbie, we aren’t connected to the makers of Vortex Air Fryer but we hope you can find some delicious recipes that you want to try on our site. Most of our recipes will work in Air Fryer. If there is anything specific you are looking for let us know!

  2. So this is confusing: On one hand instructions say to preheat the air fryer: “Be sure to preheat the air fryer. The chicken will cook more evenly if the temperature stays constant.” And on the other hand it tells us to be sure to install the basket with the drumsticks in a cold oven: “Place the basket in Air Fryer before heating because it is very hard to load when the fryer is hot!” And then “preheat”. That’s not preheat if the drumsticks are already in the basket in the oven. What do you recommend?

    1. Hey Claire, thanks for pointing that out. It is recommended to place the air fryer basket in the air fryer before heating the air fryer since it can be tricky to insert after it is hot. I hope that helps!

      1. What basket? I keep reading to put things in a basket but mine is like the one shown and it has to shelves/trays and a drip pan in the bottom.
Where is a basket? And how can you cook anything that is not solid? Like baking cornbread, cake, casserole… when no pans will fit because it’s so small. ??

        1. Hi Reba, having a basket will depend on the brand/model of air fryer you have. For this recipe, we specifically made it in a rotisserie basket that came with our Air Fryer. If you don’t have a basket you can always cook the chicken on the rack instead of in the rotisserie basket. As for things that are not solid, we have found pans, cupcake liners, and other baking dishes that fit in our air fryer to make that possible. You can take a look at our Air Fryer Accessories info and maybe there is something that will fit in yours too! Good luck!

    1. Yes but you will need to cook longer. About thirty minutes. Make sure the internal temperature is 165F.

  3. Thank u I really did not join what I could cook in that basket will be looking forward to seeing other recipes that I can make in the basket.

      1. You can do either – if the chicken is under 4 pounds it will fit in the basket. You want to use the rack for larger, it will break the rotisserie.

      1. Hi Sarah, you should have the same results using a tray instead of a basket. We would love to hear how it turns out.
