Ingredients and Variations
Ham – Make sure you buy a small enough ham (about 2-3 pounds) that can fit, or can be cut to fit, your air fryer. A bone-in ham, while flavorful, might not be appropriate for this recipe unless you can find one small enough. Spiral cut hams are great pre-cooked hams and make for easy and elegant slices. They often come with a glaze packet which you can save for other recipes!
Glaze – The honey, brown sugar, and orange juice glaze gives that sweet-salty flavor combo that makes this honey glazed ham recipe famous! Pineapple or apple juice is also delicious in ham glazes. Maple syrup can be substituted for honey, for an extra layer of flavor.
Variations – A roasted ham covered with juicy pineapple slices or served alongside air fryer pineapple always makes for an impressive presentation! Cooking for one? Try a glazed ham steak instead, and reduce the cooking time.
How to Make Air Fryer Ham
Here’s how to make sure your ham comes out juicy and flavorful.
- Wrap ham in foil. Make sure the foil does not touch the air fryer heating element. If necessary, trim the ham from the bottom to fit.
- Place ham in the air fryer basket seam side up, and cook (per the recipe below).
- While the ham is cooking, mix the glaze ingredients. Remove the basket, carefully open the foil, and generously brush the top with the glaze mixture.
- Reseal the foil and cook for an additional few minutes. Then open the foil and cook for a few minutes to brown the glaze.
Pro Tips for Honey Glazed Ham
- Serve hot with delicious sides, such as praline sweet potatoes, roasted asparagus, or cheese bread!
- For easy clean-up and juicy results, make sure the foil packet is well sealed, and place it seam-side up in the air fryer basket. Do not allow the seam to touch the air fryer heating element.
- Trim the ham from the bottom to make it fit if necessary. If using an uncut ham, score the top in a crisscross pattern to help crisp up the skin.
Storing Ham
Leftovers should be tightly wrapped in plastic and stored in zip bags for 3-5 days in the refrigerator, or in the freezer for up to two months.
If freezing, wrap in foil first, then plastic to prevent drying out. Then to reheat, just thaw in the refrigerator, pop the foil packet into the air fryer, and heat until the internal temperature reaches 145°F.
