Easy to season, homemade kale chips can be a different recipe every time! Switch them out over carb-laden croutons in soups and salads!

KALE: Any variety of kale will work for this recipe, however Lacinato kale, aka “dinosaur kale”, is easier to work with over ‘curly’ kale.

SEASONING: Try this basic recipe or keep it simple with some onion powder, garlic powder, and pepper. Then explore other flavor seasonings like ranch, taco, or bagel seasoning. Add some nutritional yeast for a nutrition boost or sprinkle on some parmesan cheese.

How to Make Air Fryer Kale Chips

  1. Rinse, pat dry, and remove the stems of the kale before using. Tear kale into bite-sized pieces (as described in the recipe below).
  2. Toss leaves in a bowl with oil and seasoning and place them in a single layer in the air fryer.
  3. Cook for two minutes, flip over, and cook another two minutes. Add more seasoning, if desired, and serve alone or with a dip.

Ultimate Crispy Tips

Make sure kale is dry so it crisps and not steams! Use a salad spinner after washing and then pat dry with a towel.

Air fry in a single layer (and in batches if necessary) to get maximum air circulation.

Air Fryer Kale Chips

These air fryer kale chips are a healthy alternative to the traditional chip.
Prep Time 5 minutes
Cook Time 4 minutes
Total Time 9 minutes
Servings 4 servings

Equipment

Ingredients  

  • 1 bunch kale
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • teaspoon paprika optional

Instructions 

  • Preheat the air fryer to 375°F.
  • Pull the leaves away from the spine and tear into chip size pieces.
  • Toss the leaves with oil and seasonings. Place in a single layer in the air fryer basket.
  • Cook for 2 minutes, flip and cook for another 2 minutes or until they are crispy.
  • Toss with salt (if you want more) or any other optional seasoning.

Notes

Store in a paper bag for up to a week. You can also use a plastic bag lined with paper towels as well.
Add them back to the air fryer if they lose their crispiness.
Seasoning Tip:  The kale leaves will shrivel in the air fryer so season lightly. If you season too heavily, they will be too salty.
Kale chips will keep at room temperature for up to 1 week.
